About

I have been married to my husband Scott for almost 13 years. We have 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls! I have personally experienced 2 hospital births and 4 home water-births. My first birth was a huge lesson in what I didn’t know. After attending a fairly decent hospital based childbirth class, I moved ahead with my plan for giving birth without an epidural. That is really the only decision I made prior to labor. My husband was incredible support to me throughout my 28 hour labor and while it wasn’t the perfect birth by any means, it went incredibly well given how little I knew. Although I did get a dose of IV narcotics at one point in labor, I did make it to my goal of not having an epidural!

It was after her birth that I found myself still fascinated by all things pregnancy and birth. I began to research potential career options in hopes of finding some way to channel my new obsession. I knew I didn’t want to be a midwife at the time, but began to learn about the role of the doula. I found a local mentor, attended a friend’s birth and then had my 2nd child. My 2nd labor was 12 hours, less than 5 at the hospital and completely un-medicated. It was at my 2nd birth that I had a doula and learned firsthand just how valuable that support really is. I attended my doula training in October 2002 and began consistently attending births after that.

I believe that birth is a normal physiological event that works best with minimal interference. I have been a birth doula in the Atlanta area for over 8 years and a childbirth educator for 6 years. I have attended births in most of the metro area hospitals as well as home births. I bring experience and knowledge to your birth to help insure that you have the most satisfying birth experience possible. I am also the Founder of the Georgia Birth Network, www.gabirthnetwork.com.
